Cleo had her 6-month check-up today. She is 17 lbs, 3 ozs and 26 1/2 inches long. About 75th percentile for both. She got 2 shots and an oral vaccine and she screamed for all of it. She goes back in 3 months. Doctor says she is looking great. We already started cereal and some foods (carrots and sweet potatoes so far), but the doctors says now we can add water to the list (2 to 4 ozs per day) and start teaching her to use sippy cups and regular cups. He also said we can use sun screen (good thing because she wore some this weekend) and low-deet bug spray on her. He wasn't worried about the cough she's had for about 2 months now...weird.
I think she might be coming down with something though. I wouldn't be surprised if we're back at the doctor by the end of the week.

Teething is to sleeping what not sleeping is to coherent thought
Or something like that.
So Cleo is teething. Again. Or would it be still?
We thought it was another bottom tooth coming out, but Jeff and Maureen at daycare have surmised that it is, in fact, what we are calling a "fang tooth". Interesting choice Cleo.
We didn't sleep much Wednesday night. She cried from about 10pm until sometime after 3am. We stopped paying attention at that point and eventually everyone just passed out.
Friends said "Oh, give her a cold wet wash cloth out of the fridge, my kids loved that."
To which Cleo said "Why are you trying to wipe my face with a freezing cold wash cloth!?!?!?! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Ok, well try a frozen one."
To which Cleo said "Are you freaking kidding me...my gums hurt and this thing is hard as a rock!?!? WHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
"Turn on the vacuum cleaner...that humming will surely put her to sleep."
To which Cleo said "Hmm, that sounds interesting. No, I almost forgot... WHAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!"
Yeah, none of that stuff works. Neither does Tylenol. Or bringing her back into the bed with us. And don't even show her a binky!!
Last night she cried from 9pm to 11pm. She finally fell asleep while I was rocking her sometime after 11 and when I put her down in the crib she stayed asleep out of pure exhaustion I guess. When my alarm went off at 5:45am this morning I thought for sure something was wrong because she didn't wake up once all night. Jeff said she was mellow and obviously not feeling too great this morning when he took her to daycare.
So tomorrow is Jeff's birthday and we're having a little BBQ get together. Hopefully we get some sleep tonight!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I chopped all my hair off on Wednesday night and she keeps looking at me like "You look familiar but I can't quite place it." Fun.

Cribbing it up
Cleo has spent the last 3 nights in her crib! It appears that she ferberized herself. We think she is going through a growth spurt so that may have something to do with it as well. She has been super-happy-fun-baby lately too, which is a lot of fun for us all. Full of smiles and giggles.
She tried carrots for the first time this weekend. The first night I tried to give them to her I mistakenly started out with the carrots, which resulted in a total meltdown and her refusal to eat anything (including her cereal). The second night I started with her cereal, then eventually moved on to the carrots and they were a big hit! She seems to really like them.
The photography session last Thursday was a big success. I have lots of pictures to post. I also took some video on my camera which I'll try to post this week.

Success?!?!
Last night Jeff and I went to the Red Sox game and left Cleo with Jeff's brother Doug and his wife Amy. She was pretty good from what we're told and didn't have a major meltdown until right before we got home. A bottle did the trick though and Jeff put her back down into her crib and came downstairs afterwards.
She was whiny for a little while but we left her up there and before we knew it she had fallen asleep.
We went up to bed shortly thereafter.
Next thing I know it's 5:30am and the sun is coming up. I thought for sure something was wrong. But no, she was fast asleep in her crib.
She woke up at 7am happy as a clam.
So she slept in her crib for 12 hours, only waking up once to have a bottle.
Was a fluke? Or the beginning of something wonderful???
Maybe we won't have to Ferberize her after all.
Stay tuned!

Teething!!!
Oh boy, we are in the midst of some serious teething. Bad time for grandparents to be visiting because no one has gotten much sleep in this house the last 2 nights. She wakes up at all hours and is totally inconsolable. We've tried tylenol and teething rings but neither seem to do much for her.
Poor little Cleo is bumming out. She is clearly in a lot of pain. I still can't really see any teeth, but boy can I feel them and they are SHARP. Good thing we're done breastfeeding.
I bought some baby Oragel this morning but I'll be damned if I know how to actually get it into her mouth. She is very determined to not let me stick this stuff onto her gums...but I'm sure her bottom lip and chin were quite numb when I tried to apply it earlier. I also bought some kind of herbal teething remedy that we may try to give her tonight (although I'm pretty sure it just knocks her out so I'll have to do some internet research first).
We've been trying to keep her spirits up though and here she was earlier today in her bouncy chair...

And the cutest nap ever is happening as we speak...

Cleo and Grammy
A couple of weeks ago she thought she could feed herself...

Last weekend, sitting on the couch watching Meet the Press while Jeff and I got ready. Note her crossed legs! Too funny.

This morning with Daddy taking her morning nap

And earlier today with Grammy

Then she noticed my phone and wanted to eat it
