Nursery

Jeff and I (ok, mostly Jeff) have been doing lots of stuff around the house this summer, anticipating the fact that we won't have the time (or $$$) to do any of this stuff once the baby is here. We've gotten the front yard landscaping done, a new front door is on order (which should be installed sometime in the next month) and we're going to update the insulation in the kitchen sometime soon (it's about 20 degrees colder in the kitchen than in the rest of the house in the winter). We've also spent pretty much every weekend this summer working on the nursery in some capacity. It's been a lot of fun and Jeff has been a really good sport about letting me boss him around. It hasn't been easy up there working in a room with no a/c. It is a work in progress, but it's slowly coming together.

Here are Jeff, Daphne and Trixie working on the crib in the driveway a few weeks ago (by the way, we don't have to "pose" the dogs like this...this is just how they instinctively "help"...and I actually helped with this project too)

Moving inside...
Here is the nursery paint color (on a somewhat cloudy day). Its gray with a lot of blue and lavender in it. I think it's really soothing and it changes colors throughout the day depending on the light. Sorry for the blurriness in some of these photos...

Another side

And yet another side

The changing table ($35 from Ikea!!!) piled with stuff.

A little bookshelf piled with storage containers and an Eiffel Tower lamp

Last weekend I set about tackling the curtains...24 yards of fabric in all!!! I estimate we saved $200-$300 by making them. Curtains are outrageously priced.

We spent this past weekend working in there again. (Incidentally I also built 2 new shelving units for the basement, rearranged all of the kitchen cabinets and moved tons of stuff that we were storing in the kitchen down to the new basement shelves...nesting is awesome!!!) We have one set of curtains hung and we (mostly Jeff) built a little armoire (another Ikea purchase) which will hold most of her hanging clothes. We tried to hang the other set of curtains, but soon discovered that the radiator in that room has a leak...it leaked on one of the curtains, so it's already stained. :( Oh well. Another project...call the plumber! For the most part the furniture is now in place. We need to finish putting together the crib and we're having a handyman come to hang shelves in the closet. I'll post more pictures soon!
